Picture of unborn child holding doctor's hand during a fetal operation.
It's a beautiful photo, but not entirely correct. The baby didn't "hold the doctor's hand" or reach out; both mother and child were anesthetized and couldn't move voluntarily. The baby's hand slipped out at the end of the procedure when the surgeons were closing the uterus, and the doctor gently put the hand back in - the photo is of that moment.
Also... it's dated 1999.
Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice photo - but is it really news?
What? Since when was Newsvine for news?
Oh, right
Right Kerstin. That doctor is my ex-husband, Joseph P. Bruner. The anti-abortion movement went nuts over that photo, but the baby is asleep, just like its mother at the time of the photo. Its hand came out as they were readjusting it to get the spina bifida lesion at the opening of the uterus.
Weird that this got 11 votes, this picture has been around for quite some time.
Yes, the child involved is now in elementary school!
I find it interesting when people claim absolute certainty on things about which they cannot be certain. That the child was asleep cannot be known. That it was gripping the finger is evident from the photo. Whether asleep or awake, one's hand may grip another. Yet some are certain the child was not gripping the finger though the evidence is before their eyes.
Different people, cultures and religions have different opinions on when the unborn becomes valuable. Yet some how the pro-abortionist is absolutely certain that the killing of the unborn is justified though she cannot prove at what point the unborn suddenly becomes valuable. Since we cannot be certain abortion is not killing someone, abortion on demand is unjustifiable when weighed against the right to life.
Those are twice ignorant who claim certainty where they cannot be certain, because they are not even aware of their own ignorance. If, like Socrates, we would confidently admit "...all I know is that I know nothing," we would avoid baseless claims that lead to the dehumanization of the unborn.
The amazing part is even after seeing this, people are still willing to kill their children in the womb when it's the only place that they are truly protected. Some Parents want their children to grow strong and healthy and some prefer murder. How can this conundrum exist? The law protects abortion while at the same time a man like Scott Peterson was found guilty of double murder--his wife and his unborn child. That hand is a good picture of why we should see abortion as crime. It's reprehensible.
I have Spina Bifida--many like me are killed by parents who don't realize that we do grow up and that we can make a difference.
